39 tiny fans - cheering me on!

The Basement Chronicles -  #1:
I ran on the treadmill in my basement yesterday and today.  Not my first choice - if you live in MN, you know that we have had a few icy/rainy/yucky days, and I didn't want to drive to the gym....    if you have been in my basement - you will know the reason I choose to drive to the gym.  Let's just say, it is not the most cleared out, inviting space in my house.  A catch all for tools, laundry, the bulky machines that provide hot air and water, platters and vases for "just that right occasion", bins of labeled holidays, toys and clothes from my childrens past, my old year books.......  and in the middle of it all - my treadmill.

I actually had a pretty great run yesterday and a good walk today - but there is always that one point in any work out, that I think:  "OK, that's good.  I can be done now".  But I am following a book that gives me a goal to reach and I have come too far to give up now....  Usually at the gym, I look around, and pick out a few people, and think, "If they can do it, I can do it!" and on I go.   But, ugh.  I am in my basement.  I want ANY reason to be done.     But then I started to look around - and I found my inspiration.

On a shelf 1 foot in front of me, there is a lego set that was carefully carried down a few years ago.  Once perfectly assembled and treasured.  Now a little broken, and a little beyond dusty.  The NBA set - a full court, baskets, mechanisms where you put the little lego guys and they actually play BB!   And then there are the stands surrounding the court.  The FANS.  Today there are 39 tiny, colorful, smiling fans.  At one time they had been watching the BB games, but now...  well now, there they were.  Cheering me on.  In groups of 2 and 3. Some singles.  Some with their arms up, some down.   They were yelling, "YOU CAN DO IT!"  I imagined they were the people lining the street cheering me on as I finish the Marathon for my 40th.

I did do it.  Finished my run.  And I wonder what the kids will think when they go down and notice that all their arms are now raised, and they are all facing my treadmill.    Mom likes legos too...and will take all the cheering and encouragement she can get.

  2. I can't get this to work. I'll try one more time. Good for you Katherine (of course running sounds crazy and awful to me). I blog to vent but now exercising, that could actually be beneficial. Keep it up!
